NatureFinTech „The LandbankingGroup” has developed the first end-to-end operating system that bridges nature and business. The Munich-based company is now raising its ambition and bringing new investors on board

  • The Landbanking Group was founded in 2022 to allow asset-grade investments into natural capital
  • The Landbanking Group has now responded to existing and additional investor interest and raised an extension round of EUR 4,75 million.

“We are in the middle of an exciting paradigm shift as nature starts being recognized as critical infrastructure for businesses, economies and societies at large.” says Prof. Martin R. Stuchtey, co-founder of The Landbanking Group.

The Landbanking Group follows leading scientists such as Prof. Johan Rockström who see the loss of nature as the biggest challenge for the global economy. And its reversal as the biggest investment opportunity. By disrupting current mindsets and providing the financial infrastructure for trusted investment in measured nature outcomes, the FinTech enables land stewards to be rewarded for, and companies to invest into measured natural capital. For that reason, the company has developed Landler- a platform that allows to measure, manage and monetize natural capital.

“Our technology links Earth observation, digital ground assessments, and machine learning to assess every track of the planet and give it a natural capital account" says co-founder Dr. Sonja Stuchtey. That account serves as an underlying for the issuance of Nature Equity assets. These have balance-sheet grade and are attractive for agri-food, energy, utility or infrastructure companies, but also increasingly for insurances and financial institutions.

Since its start in 2022, the company has flourished into an international team of 55 experts in ecology, ecosystem-modelling, data science, AI, engineering, financial engineering and business building and has enjoyed the support of a renowned group of investors from the very beginning. To date, over 2 million hectares have been uploaded to the Landler platform by over 30 customers.

The seed round was led by impact investment pioneer Bonventure together with André Hoffmann, a thought and change leader of the natural capital movement. The Landbanking Group has now responded to additional investor interest and raised EUR 4,75 million supported by existing and new investors. The team is delighted to welcome new investors, such as ClimaNow, an investment company focusing on finding and funding impactful solutions to the current climate crisis, and Kara Impact Ventures, an investment company that invests in pioneering new solutions, contributing to the development of new sustainable markets and their critical infrastructure.

“We have very clear plans how to deploy the extra funds”, says TLG soil and sales expert Tobias Bandel. “Supported by an ever-broadening group of investors we will acquire training data for our (biodiversity) models, expand our range of product functionalities and strengthen our go-to-market, developer and solutions teams. And we will double down on socialising the idea of nature on the balance sheet”.
